A Historic Hanger

  As part of our home school co-op...it was so much fun to take the boys to this museum field trip and get to spend some bonding time with the other families - while getting a great history lesson in!  How can you go wrong with so many Exhibits, Aircraft and Engines!  We had the best tour guide named Bill and all the staff was welcoming with that amazing southern hospitality that you would expect from the south.  As part of my son Vaughn having Autism...one of his biggest 'niches' has always been planes ~ so he was in his GLORY!  The only thing that could have topped this trip for him is if there was a Porsche present, or he could have gotten the experience to fly!  ;-)

  This was a great place to go and see Military Memorabilia!  It's a wonderful old hanger that was built for wood foot WW2 pilot training.  My kids took FOREVER in their amazing gift shop filled with all things aviation.  The hanger itself has lots of one of a kind planes {MANY THAT STILL FLY!} including Sam Walton's very first plane that he used to scout from above when choosing his new store locations.

  The adjacent military museum has all sorts of old vehicles and lots of war memorial flags, patches, weapons, etc...the admission price is reasonable and very worth the experience.  {though going as a homeschool group - we had gotten an education group discount} yay!

  Our family would like to personally Thank Mr. Bill, the Staff and The Arkansas Air & Military Museum for your southern hospitality and taking the time for ALL the questions the little ones in the group asked and to Mr. Bill for sharing your vast knowledge - fostering a greater love and respect for history and military into the youth, and the patience you displayed for our group that vastly ranged in age.  This Darn Yankee really appreciated your wisdom, time and hospitality. :)  I can't wait to be able to bring my family back again for one of the air shows.  And we look forward to seeing more of the kit planes that You put together too!  =)


  The Arkansas Air and Military Museum is now offering visitors rides in their very own Stinson Junior!  How cool is that!?!  I wish I could take my son back for that!!!  Maybe for his birthday.  Public flight rides in this historic aircraft will last about 25 minutes.  For more information on how to arrange our flight you can call them directly at (479)521-4947.
