Bissell Deep Clean Premier ~ My Experience

My Compulsive Cleaning bar was through the roof bringing my new toy home and giving it a Go!

  For starters...I have a bit of obsessive control disorder when it comes to cleaning.  Haha, okay lets be honest...I've a Huge Obsessive Cleaning Disorder.  Especially when it comes to carpets.

 In lieu of Spring being around the corner, my husband and I invested in a new carpet shampooer to begin one of my favorite times of the year ~ SPRING CLEANING!  There have been times my husband has rented a Rug Doctor and had me take it for a spin, and initially when I first pulled our new unit out to give it a whirl...that's what I compared it to to justify and basically talk myself into 'bonding' with our new family member.  haha!  Yes, I have the cleaning bug bad.  Anyways, I am VERY disappointed with this Bissell.  This is the sum of my experience.

1. Initially, I found it very easy to assemble.  But the carpet cleaner is very cheaply made with the place to hold the hand tool being the most concerning. The holder is very thin for the hand tool, and despite it being fitted...still falls out during floor cleaning use. Within thirty minutes of use the hand cleaner tool fell to the floor multiple of times, and depending of the angle of the drop, my leg would get sprayed by the cleaner.  I resorted to tying it with yarn to the handle, not pretty - but annoyingly effective.

2. While the company touts a water tank that is 25% bigger, they do not talk about how this makes the unit bulky and awkward and HEAVY. Filling the newer improved water tank halfway does not fix the problem. This unit is heavy to push and pull across the carpets. The unit is not very easy to move around because of the overall empty weight. There is no way I will be lugging this beast up any stairs!

3. There are less options on this model, compared to their other models in the past. You can only clean with the heat on (with their other models you could flip a switch.) The heat doesn't get very hot at all! I tried it with different temperatures of warm to hot tap water.  The only 'Heat' this unit produced was the same temperature from my tap.  Plus, you cannot toggle between the floor cleaning and hand cleaning option. The position of the handle determines whether the hand tool comes on or not. It kept sucking at my shirt whenever I bent over to shut the unit off!

4. You add cleaning solution directly in the water holding tank. I hate this because it now means I cannot do water only rinses without emptying and rinsing the water tank very thoroughly. This also means the customer will use more cleaner because you will have to toss out any unused solution to avoid damaging the seals and unit. Before the water tank was emptied and cleaned with each use and the small separate container could be saved for other uses. Other models would even let you switch between heavy and light soils to help preserve the cleaning fluid or tackle tough spots easily.

5. The on/off button is a push button instead of a switch. I had to repeatedly hit the button before the unit shut off. The placement of the button, midway down the unit, is also awkward!  I had to keep twisting and bending over to use the on/off switch. It annoyed me-and I am short (5'5") so I can imagine that an even taller person would be much bothered by it.

6. The price is way too much for the options that it offers. (In the $180 range.) If one was looking at characteristics alone they could easily look to other brands still save $75 to $100 by purchase a small, mobile unit. Yes, they are basic models but honestly that is what you get with this unit in a full size model which makes it bulky.  I am definitely, 100%, returning this product back to the store. I am a mother of older school aged children and typically use carpet cleaners to scrub away muddy shoe prints, the occasional spilled glass of milk, or just a light cleaning for peace of mind. I have owned a variety of carpet shampooers for the past 13-14 years and this frankly is one of the most disappointing ones ever. I feel like I can say that because I have owned about five different models and typically clean my carpets every three to four weeks. I was told that this product is going to replace the Bissell Proheat x2 and can tell you without a doubt this is a very poor substitute. Even if this product was priced at $100 less, I still would be upset. Bottom line is do NOT buy this model, even if you feel like you have no other option. You will definitely come to regret it even if you try to talk yourself into liking it.  Believe me, I tried!

To be FAIR, I feel it met my expectations for cleaning the floor.  Additionally, this unit would benefit having a propelled feature to help comp for the weight.  Till then, it's being returned.

Booooo Face!

Do you have a favorite shampooer?  Or suggestions for me to keep our floors clean?  Now that we have an indoor dog ~ I want to keep my carpets EXTRA sanitary, {and bed since he takes it over through the night too!}.

Wicker Basket Redo DIY ~ Duke's New Toy Box!

*I was not paid to endorse any website, store or product for this post.  This post is based upon my experience and honest opinion only.

Though dogs' are notoriously known to be man's best friend  ~ Duke is also mine.  He is a Black & Tan Coonhound rescue.  After re-homing our beloved cat prior to our big move half way across the country, I didn't want anymore pets till we bought a farm.  It was bad enough to travel with kids, guinea pig and a turtle.

  Originally, we stopped by the Bella Vista, Arkansas shelter to see if there was anything the boys and I could do to volunteer our time as a 'community service character building project'...as we got our tour from a sweet staff member, with each passing through our eyes kept drawing to Duke sitting still in the corner of his kennel.  Daily, his food and water dish was untouched.  He had no tail, and a hung head.  As we went back, he began to look weaker and even sadder.  He was neglected before the shelter took him in and with him refusing to eat and you could literally count his ribs.  The staff was so sweet and appreciated our help and offerings.

  Other than knowing Coonhounds were great for treeing and hunting, {bear, deer, raccoon, squirrels, etc.. - none of which I do!} So I came home to look up information about this breed.

As stated on their site about Coonhounds -
"How do these dogs handle shelter life?
They don’t. Coonhounds in shelters either become frantic and start barking and jumping on the kennel or they become depressed. It is very common for them to quit eating and become emaciated."

 So our community service projected turned into an adoption and bringing this brown eyed gentle pooch home that has stole our hearts, bed and wallet.  He is not just our family dog, but my shadow, cuddle buddy and a great crumb picker-upper that LOVES cheese!

Now that we're done with Duke's back story...lets get onto our Wicker Toy Box Redo!

  For over a year we were using a card board box for his toy bin.  Then, I saw this deeply discounted wicker basket with very sturdy wooden feet at Home Goods in the clearance section, {my first spot to hit in every store!}.  It was originally priced at $64.00...and I got it for ~ brace yourself $3.00!!!   In its current state, it already looked better in the living room than the cardboard box.  I knew by the time I was done with it...it would be FABULOUS!

  I already had the spray paint at home that I used for a prior project.  Since Duke is now long past the puppy phase of chewing up stuff, I felt confident bringing this little treat home and painting it for him.

I used Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch in Satin Espresso Color

I used bent card stock to try to keep the edges clean while I spray painted it.
{painters tape would have been ideal though}

I left the Wicket basket outside in the sun to dry for a couple hours.

I wrapped leftover white and red ribbon around his toy bin.  I'm going to make a blue name tag that
says "Duke" yet to go with my Americana theme for the living room.

I'm happy with this turn out and he enjoys flipping his toys out already.  Not bad for only $3.00!

Blue Chair Furniture Consignment

  I've never been in a place like this!  It's large and well-curated.  Eclectic in the very best way!
If you are visiting from out of town, be sure to stop by this place.  It is destined to become a mini-landmark for shoppers.  If you're a local, make a weekly trip, stuff moves here fast!

  When leaving Pennsylvania - we had given away so much of our big furniture items with the reasoning of running out of room in big Budget truck.  I figured we would just buy new when we got here.  Let me tell you, there is a HUGE price tag difference in furniture here in NWA {for new and used items}, and I'm not exactly sure why.  After going to all the big name brand stores by using navigation 'furniture stores near me'...we eventually took to searching used stores, consignment and flea markets.  Again, HUGE price tag difference compared to good 'ol PA...but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.  To be honest, used furniture scares me.  Especially if it has fabric or has any kind of filling, but I knew I was hunting for matching wooden night stands - so I could work with that.  But this store did not scare me, it even smelled - NICE!

  We've lived here in NWA for over a year now without night stands and I just could not take it anymore!  I enjoy having a place for my books, lamp, glasses, cell phone holder, etc...rite next to me.  We had spent several weekends on the hunt before coming to this shop that didn't even make google radar yet.  It was called 'Blue Chair Furniture Consignment'.

 As we began for the door, we were greeted the coolest, sweetest short haired blonde lady you could imagine for customer service.  With a smile from ear to ear, she was spray painting blue wooden chairs to then fasten to the perimeter of the roof!  Very hands on and professional...I wanted to hire her!  She is a woman of my own heart!  I explained to her what I had for budget to work with and she went out of her way to be creative with showing me options from her store.  She wasn't pushy, but ever so HELPFUL!  She even gave me a small discount ~ which really touched my heart to work with a real human being.

Their description from their facebook page: "Blue Chair is a resale consignment shop - the type marketplace where the only way to shop is with 'getting home' on your mind! A culture clash of furniture and decor is coming in daily, a constant and changing inventory makes for a non-stop flow of ideas and fresh looks. Mixing the new with the old and joining treasures of mod with gaud is a do-over task we relish daily. Hodgepodge displays of kitschy glunk or timeless showpieces, rich with history, are our specialties! Home Home Home is the mantra that speaks to the heart of Blue Chair."

Here is a small sample of what they have to offer.  I am so impressed with their creative displays...and this is just a small sample!  Each room was not just thrown together, but felt like it could be home!

I loved this green table above sooo much...but there was only one.

Kings River Falls ~ Witter, Arkansas {close to Boston, AR}

  Another Place You MUST Visit and spend a WHOLE Day is Kings River Falls
{bring your lunch, swim attire, towel and most importantly, a waterproof camera!}

  The boys and I were blessed by an invitation to join another family in our homeschooling co-op to go on a day field trip To Kings River Falls in Boston, Arkansas.  After spending days refinishing my boy's bedroom furniture, {I'm excited to share that post once it's completed!}, we really needed some fun and out door mountain air time!

 I may have been born a Philly girl, but I've always been a mountain woman by heart.  My soul is still stirring by the smell of spring & the views from the drive alone in these vast, beautiful green mountains.  Arkansas is truly 'The Natural State'.  Moving from the east coast, I am still in wonderment as I get to explore all these hidden treasures of this and surrounding fascinating states.  One of the reasons we chose to move to our location in NWA {North West Arkansas} is of the access to all the lakes, hiking trails, and the waterfalls.
Below is a link for Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission...it is chock-full of information on local natural areas, news/events, data & research, and if you have kids or teach - there is a tab for Citizen Science that my boys are loving!

My YouTube Channel - Short video of my children & friends jumping in! -  Waterfall Jumping

  Feast your eyes on just a FEW of the photos that I took.  I was so in love with the richness of natural beauty that surrounded me - it was hard to put my camera down.  I'm so glad we got to go in spring, with all the flowers blooming.  Next time I go, I will be leaving my camera on a rock and spending more time swimming and jumping off the cliffs!  Additionally, I will be taking a tent to overnight it!

*Note -NONE of these photos were Photoshoped or enhanced in any way, this is natural beauty.  All I did was drop my tag line on each picture.*

One of many views :)

I lost count of the amount of jumps he made in one day...great fun & exercise climbing back up!
On our way out, I tried to take as many pictures of posies and raspberry bushes as possible

This periwinkle reminded me and made me miss my mother-in-law Kathy

You can see this house from the trail.  I was told by a gentleman that happened to join our group {with his cute dog} that it was built a year ago.  I LOVED it..It really reminded me of Little House On the Prairie.

Picture I took of a sign hung on the tree, can be seen several spots on the trail.

The following is more random pictures I took during our special day

Hope you enjoyed the photos of our trip!  As a newbie to the area, I would love other suggestions of amazing destination spots in NWA like this to venture to with my littles!  So please feel free to share others in the comments, lets make this a resource list...and the longer the better!

Thanks so much,
